all about space

Today was my first day of summer vacation! It was absolutely wonderful! We spent the entire day on the lake. It is going to be a great summer!
Here is a look at some of the things we did in May.
For this moon craftivity we drew a circle and colored it in with a yellow crayon. Then we painted over the entire paper using black water colors.
All of the activities above can be found in my newest unit spectacular space!

I just had to share this precious mother's day portrait. How adorable is this drawing. Her mommy has a band and loves to sing. The labels are found in my mother's day unit right here.

space!

We had a fun space unit. We learned all about astronauts, our solar system, spaceships, aliens, the moon, and lots of big science words!
We graphed would you like to go to the moon? They colored a moon coin and placed it on the correct column. The cute little astronauts came from Babbling Abby.

We practiced counting back with this super fun song, climb aboard the spaceship. My kids loved acting out the song and shouting, "Blast off!" We also glued the song into our poetry journals.
Here is our space word wall to help us while we write.
Here is one of our pocket chart activities they completed during stations. Idea inspiration by Julie Lee.
We read lots of non-fiction books about space and recorded our new learning with this little recording sheet. They loved picking out a non-fiction book to find new facts.
 Astronauts tree map-
We filled it out after reading books about astronauts. They used this to help them with their writing during the week.

space

Along with aliens I added Babbling Abby's astronaut unit. After reading lots of books about space and astronauts we made a tree map about astronauts. Each child had to write one fact on a sticky note and place it under the correct linking word. My low kids drew a picture.
Then we took all that information and created sentences using the linking words.

Then we completed astronaut applications and made astronauts.
We also sang and danced to the purple people eater song. Then we made spaceships and painted purple people eaters. This idea was inspired by Deanna Jump. If you would like the sentence prompt and number sentence prompt click one of the pictures below.

We graphed if you would like to live on the moon and analyzed the data.
