Celebrate the Earth!

We had a lot of fun celebrating the Earth with The Lorax. We made this adorable Lorax art from prek and k sharing to wrap up our learning.

 We made dirt cups to celebrate the earth and did a little how to writing. These were so yummy!

We made a class book about what the earth gives us. This idea came from Chalk Talk.

After reading The Lorax we talked about how characters change. We added an entry into our reader's workshop journal about how the Once-ler changed.

We added this song to our poetry journal and wrote about how we could make the earth glitter.

We also did some Lorax math. I got the idea to set up our math problems like this from Kim Adsit.

cinco de mayo, earth day, and my farm unit

We made sombreros for Cinco de Mayo using paper scraps and dot markers. Then we attached them to a sentence strip to wear throughout the day.

For Earth day we made this chart and added all of the things we can do to take care of the earth. Then they made this little craftivity. You can download the writing here.

Earth day!

We watched a Brain Pop Jr. video on recycling. You can watch it free here. Then we brainstormed ways to take care of the Earth.

They made an Earth and glued on the Earth day poem.
"No job is too big,
No action is too small,
For the care of the Earth,
Is the task of us all."

The Earth was followed with the writing prompt, "I can make the Earth glitter . . ." Happy Weekend!! Don't you just love long weekends!

Earth Day

For Earth day I created this writing activity. I made two different versions and included a poem to glue into their poetry journal. Click the picture below to download. This would be great in your writing station, as morning work, or for writers' workshop.
