Christopher Columbus

Here is a little Columbus day activity we did this week. I am in love with this adorable Columbus unit by Kim Adsit.

I know this is an old post, but hopefully we've all learned something since then and are changing the conversation and lessons around Columbus - who was, unequivocally and unarguably, an extremely awful person who did a number of horrific things and is responsible for swathes of murder, enslavement, and atrocities. I encourage teachers to avoid perpetuating the weird myths that somehow have been reinforced about this historical figure, and find alternative activities for this day !

( For a very quick and easy reminder about why writing 'hero' next to Columbus' name should horrify you, see )
