ocean themed station game

Hopefully I'll have time to squeeze in oceans. You can add this game to your math station tubs. It's simple and fun to play. Inspired by Cara Carroll.

Weather

Thanks to blogging I was able do some really cute and fun stuff with my class for a weather mini unit.
I am in love with these adorbale umbrellas by Cara Carroll. They had to write onomatpoeia words on each raindrop to represent the sounds of weather. This is my example.

We've been singing this song to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it"

Made for 1st grade has a great weather unit. We wrote about bad wind and good wind after reading "The Wind Blew" by Pat Hutchins.

Then we learned about rainbows and made this cute guy, Roy G. Biv.

I used cloud people inspired by Babbling Abby to teach the kids about the different types of clouds. They show the varying heights and sizes.

This idea was inspired by Cara Carroll. We made a class book patterned after "Little Cloud" by Eric Carle. They made tear paper shaped clouds and finished the sentence prompt "My little cloud changed into . . ."

last of the insects and mother's day activity

Learning about insects was so much fun. I just love all of Deanna Jump's units. We learned about bees and wrote bee list poems.
Look at this little smartie, she decided she would make a word web. Love it!
Bee list poem. You can download the bee list poem here.
We finished up the unit by making some yummy bugs! They made some very creative bugs.

The kids drew portraits of their mothers for mother's day. Then they glued on the sentence strips. I laminate and send home. One of the sentence strips says, "Two eyes to watch me grow."

butterflies and target

Who else is ecstatic that it is May? We finished insects today. We wrote about the chrysalis and butterfly today. I love how the butterflies turned out.

Another Target find. When everyone started posting about these darling trash cans I rushed out to get some. Unfortunately, these were the only two left. We used the new sound munchers with Cara Carroll's cookie monster activity.

Mother's Day

I have two writing activites for Mother's Day I think your kiddos will enjoy. The first is a list poem. You could have them list what mom looks like or what she does. This is a little how to writing about something special mom cooks. It is cute to read how the child thinks food is prepared. Also, this was posted here and here. It is easy and darling. I think I will have my kids make it. Kathleen from Growing Kinders also included the labels to download.
