This idea was inspired by one of the lovely blog teachers I follow, Mrs. Roper. My kiddos love to write the room. They each get their own special glasses, a ginormous pen, pointer, and clipboard. This makes write the room extra special!

Happy V Day!
Were your kiddos CRAZY today? Here are some of the activities we did today.
We graphed the colors of conversation hearts in our box. Head on over to The Inspired Apple to grab this activity. Luckily someone brought candy hearts to pass out.
Then we graphed the letters in our conversation heart. I bought a huge box of stick on hearts to use for different activities.

And if you still have conversation hearts lying around here is another activity. Give each child a heart and have them answer the questions.
How many letters are in your heart?
And oh yes, I had to make these darling valentines for my kiddos. Big hit, they loved it!
For our party we passed out valentines. Each child decorated a box with their family at home. It was fun seeing what they came up with. Check this box out!
I had two stations, cookie decorating and a craft. The cookies looked delicious.
Let the countdown to Spring Break begin!!

Dental health . . .
Post Edit
Maybe just one of my favorite units (I may or may not have gone to dental hygiene school). I plan to read the new story Silverlicious. Pinkalicious loses her sweet tooth. I know my little girls are going to love reading this!
The girls at What the Teacher Wants just posted an adorable dental health mini unit. Go get it here.
I also just purchased Cara Carroll's dental health mini unit from Teachers Pay Teachers. Grab it here.

Valentine fun!
We’ve been learning Valentine words and reading some fun Valentine books. I bought Babbling Abby’s mini unit and it is CUTE! Find it here.
I found these cute matching cards at Target. So I turned a set into Valentine number match.
This border was in the dollar section at Target (I love the dollar section)! This is what I did with the left over border. They can count out the correct number of hearts or sort by letters on the conversation heart.
And another number/number word matching activity.
Time for bed :)

smart board and other stuff
Friday we actually had a snow day, minus the snow. An extra day to sleep in is a big deal for me! We used today to wrap up our penguin study. Using the smart board, we found popcorn words and chunks.
We did this cute writing activity from Cara Carroll. It was fun hearing all of their cute responses. They didn’t want to have to eat chewed up food. They love using our new big word, regurgitate!
Up next . . .
Deanna’s new America unit. It is cute!

Things that make me smile
This darling picture drawn by one of my students in the art station.
I about died over this. I found a little boy making miniature penguins in the art station. PRECIOUS!
This is our morning question. Everyone has to answer the question. Then we find out who greater gator eats. I let the kids change the question every afternoon. They come up with the best questions. Like this question I found. I am loving all the simile faces.
Name please
How do you get your kiddos to remember to write their name? Well, I just recently saw this amazing little trick while blog hopping. I really wish I could remember who posted it. Are you ready for the trick? Get about 4 different colored highlighters and place them near your turn in tray. Before they turn their work in they have to highlight their name. If there is no name to highlight then they remember to write their name. This works guys!
Name Reminder
I also sing. I sing a lot in kindergarten. Try this. “Name on top please (clap) first thing!”Thursday, February 3
All about penguins
Post Edit
Here are some of the pages from our penguin books. This was in Deanna Jump’s penguin unit on TPT. We ran out of time so we glued our Pink penguins on the cover instead of making new penguins.
Our tree map helped the kids write their penguin books.
Tacky also helped. Here we labeled the parts of a penguin. Later on we used adjectives to describe Tacky.

100 years old!
Can I please look this darling when I’m 100! Before we made our masterpieces we talked about what we will look like at 100. During our discussion a little boy said the cutest thing. With his hands he went on to explain bat wings. “And it hangs.”

Stretchy the word snake
I am loving stretchy the word snake Deanna Jump posted on her blog. I’ve been able to use him in my guided reading groups and my kids love it. The children build words in the boxes. Then they use tiny cars to drive slowly as they say the phoneme. Drive the cars faster to blend the phonemes together. I found the tiny cars in the party aisle at Target.
Same idea as Elkonin sound boxes, just much cuter!

Groundhog Day
Post Edit
Well, apparently Spring is own its way. After this cold spell I am ready for some warmth. Today we read the story Groundhog Weather School.
Here are a few more fun ones to read to your class.
(I love anything by Gail Gibbons)

Wake up Groundhog
They also drew groundhog burrows and wrote about living in the groundhog burrow as if they were a groundhog. They came out really cute. Inspired by Cara Carroll.
