Fat Tuesday and writng office
Here is my writing office I finally made for the writing station. It has been on the to do list for quite some time. The kids are loving it! In our stations we have a must do activity and can do activities.
When they finish their must do they can choose to write a story, letter, book, card, poem. list, or postcard. This is where I store all of the different types of papers.
Happy Fat Tuesday!
We celebrated today with beads, king cake, and these adorable little birdies. We didn't have time to do the writing prompt that goes with the birdies.
The Mardi Gras Birdies are from my Mardi Gras unit. It should be up tomorrow night!

teeth
We had fun learning about teeth with Pinkalicious and Peter last week. We learned about having good manners and sweet behavior. Then we completed simile writing and finished the writing prompt, "Always be as sweet as . . ."
Interactive writing about teeth
We completed this chart throughout the week
They made their own and glued it into their science journals.
We watched caring for teeth on BrainPop Jr. and then charted our new learning on the circle map.
We graphed have you ever had a cavity. They each completed their own recording sheet to analyze the data.
They drew a diagram of a tooth and labeld the parts in their science journals.
All the above activities can be found in my tooth unit on TPT

penguin freebies
We learned that an emperor penguin can be four feet tall. So we measured ourselves against the penguin to see if we are taller or shorter than the penguin. I did this last year after I saw it on First Grader at Last. This year I created a recording sheet. You can download the sheet below.
For this activity we used the patterns from Live, Love, Laugh Everyday in Kindergarten. Then we talked about the real dangers penguins face. They completed the writing prompt, "Tacky saved the penguins by fooling the hunters with his crazy costume. I will save the penguins by . . ."

Here is another great idea from First Grader at Last. We read the story Pink and made pink penguins. They wrote the cutest stories. I told them to include who, what, where, when, and how. We had just learned about that when we read Tacky the penguin.

100th Day
We celebrated the 100th day of school a couple of weeks ago. We had a lot of fun celebrating all week long. We glued 100 gumballs to our gumball machine. Idea from Julie Lee. It is looking so cute in my classroom right now.
I made a huge ten frame on the carpet to help the kids make groups of ten.
Each child brought in a 100 collection to share with the class. Then we displayed them around the school.

The morning of the 100th day the kids had to crawl through the zero to enter the classroom!
We made fruit loop necklaces and neck ties
