fun on the farm!

Here is what we have been working on in kindergarten. We just finished up our farm and zoo unit. Here is our double bubble map of would you work on a farm or in the zoo? This idea came from Kim Adsit. The little farmers and zoo keepers are precious! If they wanted to work on a farm and in the zoo they added both a hat and bandanna.

 

At the end of  the unit we graphed our favorite farm animals. We practiced counting by 2's to find out the total.

After we learned about each farm animal we used interactive writing to write about what we learned.

These cute chicks are from Julie Lee's faces on the farm unit. I used them to learn about oviparous animals.

We also illustrated the definition in our science journals.

 

 We compared sheep to pigs. This is from Deanna Jump's fun on the farm unit. The sheep and pigs are also from Julie Lee.

 

the wild west

I'm on spring break and loving it! In March we always learn about our great state. We spend time talking about the state symbols, important people, the capital, cowboys and cowgirls. It is one of my favorite units to teach. Here is a freebie for you. I had the kids roll out a snake using play-doh then measure it with cubes. I followed up with this recording sheet. We read Armadillo Rodeo by Jan Brett and talked about the story elements using this story map I made on a giant boot.

After reading many books on cowboys we organized all our new leanring with this cowboy tree map.

This was our pocket chart activity for the week. We spent time learning about cowboy clothing.

 For word work we worked on making Texas words with magnetic letters and stamps.

 We made many western themed class books that we have been reading in class.

We learned what cowboys wear and why. This is our circle map of cowboy clothing.

We learned about Texas regions and the types of landforms in each region.

teeth!

Here are a few of the activities we did in February for dental health. Plenty of graphs and analyzing the data. Here we graphed have you ever had a cavity?

 Brush your teeth poem  for our poetry journals.

 Bubble map of ways to take care of your teeth and have a big happy smile.

 We sorted foods into healthy and not healthy.

I used the book Silverlicious to discuss how characters change. Then we used it to discuss character traits. We worked on finding evidence from the text. I got the cute Pinkalicious clipart from here.

100th Day recap

The 100th Day of school was lots of fun! The day was filled with everything 100. I suprised my kiddos with this super cool 100th day banner. I found the letters in the Target dollar spot last year.

I love these 100 year old people inspired by Deanna Jump. They always turn out so darling.

Tacky!

 We love Tacky!! He looks so cute hanging out in our room. The patterns are free from Tammy over at Live, Love, Laugh Everyday in Kindergarten. Super precious!

After reading Tacky the Penguin we talked about character traits and the evidence we found in the book. Then we made this bubble map to describe Tacky. You can find the pieces to make this chart in my penguin unit found here. You can grab your own set of Tacky clip art over at cool school clip art.

After we described Tacky together I had them draw Tacky in their reader's workshop journals and describe him.

After reading The Snowy Day we graphed, Have you ever played in the snow? For living in Texas we sure had a lot of kids say yes ;) We glued down cotton balls!

Then I had them survey their friends and construct their own graph.
